Laser Thread Vein Removal

What are Tread Veins / Spider Veins?

Thread veins are a common problem and occur in about half of adults. These are very fine dilated veins lying in the skin. They come from normal veins in the skin which grow much bigger than their usual size. They often occur on the cheeks and around the nasal area.

Thread veins may occur in the region where a minor injury has caused a bruise. Once this has healed, thread veins stay in its place.

Thread veins are also known as spider veins or dermal flares.

The tendency to grow them is in part an inherited problem. They may run in some families. Thread veins may begin during hormonal surges: at the onset of periods and during pregnancy.

How Does Thread Vein Treatment Work?

This simple and effective procedure uses the power of a Nd:YAG laser. The laser light passes safely through the skin and coagulates the blood in the targeted blood vessel. This causes the vein to break down and be reabsorbed into the surrounding cells.

The Nd:YAG laser emits light which is readily absorbed by blood vessels, heating them to point where they are destroyed. Following treatment, the vessels quickly clear as they are reabsorbed by the body, leaving little or no trace of the original vein.

Laser Tread Vein Removal has been safely used in over one million treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

In many cases a real difference may be seen in as few as 1-3 sessions.

The Procedure - What Should I Expect?

Step 1 - Consultation
Our technician will meet with you to discuss your options and to examine the areas which concern you. You will be asked about your medical history and will have an opportunity to ask any questions about the procedure.

Step 2 - Procedure
Treatment usually lasts between 15 - 30 minutes but may vary depending on the number and size of the vessel(s) to be treated. Most clients do not feel any pain though some report a slight stinging or mild prickling sensation. Any discomfort is minor and reported only during the treatment - not after.

Step 3 - Aftercare
You can usually continue with normal activities after treatment but we do ask that clients do not visit the gym, the sauna or take any exercise which will cause overheating. Similarly we ask that you do not expose the area to direct sunlight and use a minimum 30 SPF sunscreen.

Is the procedure painful?

Most people liken the sensation to being flicked by an elastic band.

The skin may be red and swollen immediately after treatment but this usually subsides within a few hours. Some veins will darken in colour initially but this resolves as the areas heals.

Adverse reactions are rare but may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.
